EPFO ₹15000 Incentive Eligibility Rules 2026: Who Can Get It?

If you have recently started your first job, you may be eligible to receive up to ₹15,000 from the Government of India under the Prime Minister Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY).

The main aim of this scheme is to encourage everyone, especially youth, to join the formal workforce and get social security benefits through the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

The thing to note is that this incentive will only be given to eligible employees. You will need to meet certain specific eligibility conditions, complete the necessary verification steps, and remain with the same organization for the prescribed period.

In this guide, we explain everything for 2026, including the EPFO ₹15,000 incentive eligibility rules, who can get the benefits, how payments are calculated, and what you should do to avoid delays.

  • Maximum incentive: ₹15,000 for eligible first-time employees.
  • Scheme name: Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), previously known as the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme.
  • Eligible job period: 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2027.
  • Gross salary limit: Monthly salary should be up to ₹1,00,000 at the time of joining.
  • Payment System: Beneficiaries will receive the amount directly in their bank accounts through the Aadhaar-based DBT system.
  • First payment: Eligible employees can receive up to ₹7,500 after completing six months of service.
  • Second instalment: The remaining eligible amount after meeting the 12-month service and financial literacy requirements.
  • Official portal: PM-VBRY official website.

The incentive is subject to the scheme’s detailed eligibility rules and verification by EPFO. Just meeting the basic requirements doesn’t guarantee payment.

What Is the EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive Scheme?

Under the PM-VBRY scheme, the government wants to encourage job creation so that people getting a job for the first time can have more opportunities to work in the formal sector.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment implements this scheme through the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

Under Part A, eligible first-time employees can receive a one-time incentive equivalent to one month’s EPF wage, subject to a maximum of ₹15,000.

The scheme has two components:

Part A: Incentive for First-Time Employees

Its purpose is to provide financial support to eligible employees who are working in the organized sector for the first time.

Part B: Incentives for Employers

Those institutions that provide additional employment according to the rules get financial benefits under this scheme.

This article focuses mainly on Part A, which concerns the employee incentive.

You can read the official PM-VBRY scheme guidelines for the detailed rules.

EPFO ₹15,000 Incentive Eligibility Rules 2026

Before expecting the payment, check the following eligibility conditions.

1. It is necessary to be a first-time registered employee in EPFO

This scheme is designed for people who are starting a formal job for the first time and are coming under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

Generally, you must not have been a contributing member of EPFO or an exempted provident fund trust before the relevant scheme eligibility date.

Your first eligible EPF contribution must be received during the scheme period, subject to the official definition of a first-time employee.

Important: Having a UAN does not necessarily mean that you have previously received an EPF contribution. However, the scheme administrator must verify your contribution history and eligibility.

For example, suppose you generated a UAN earlier but no EPF contribution was ever credited to your account. If you start your first eligible job during the scheme period, you may qualify, provided you meet all the other conditions.

However, if you were already an EPF-contributing employee before the relevant eligibility date, you generally will not qualify as a first-time employee.

2. Your Job Must Fall Within the Scheme Period

Under this scheme, eligible job opportunities include those born between August 1, 2025, and July 31, 2027.

This means a qualifying employee who joins during October 2026 may be eligible, provided all the other requirements are satisfied.

However, joining during this period alone is not sufficient. Your previous EPF membership, wages, employer compliance, and other scheme conditions also matter.

Check the official PM-VBRY portal for the latest instructions and updates.

3. Your Monthly Gross Wages Must Not Exceed ₹1 Lakh

New employees come under the scheme whose monthly gross salary is up to ₹1,00,000 at the time of joining the job.

If your gross wages exceed this limit, you will generally not qualify for the Part A employee incentive.

It’s important to understand that the company’s total salary, the EPF-calculated salary, and the salary you get after deductions can be different.

  • Gross wages: Your wages before applicable deductions.
  • EPF wages: The wages reported for provident fund purposes under the applicable rules.
  • Take-home salary: The amount credited to your bank account after deductions.

Your incentive calculation is based on the prescribed EPF wage figures, not simply the amount you receive in your bank account.

4. Your UAN Must Be Face-Authenticated

A Universal Account Number (UAN) is your permanent identification number for EPF-related services.

For the PM-VBRY incentive, eligible first-time employees must complete the prescribed UAN authentication using Face Authentication Technology (FAT).

This process is associated with Aadhaar-based verification through the UMANG app.

If you have recently joined a company, ask your HR department whether your UAN has been generated and whether the required authentication has been completed.

Don’t share your Aadhaar OTP, UAN password, or other personal details with any unauthorized agent.

You can visit the official UMANG website for information about the app and its services.

5. Your Bank Account Must Be Aadhaar-Seeded

The money for employee incentives is transferred directly to their bank accounts through the Aadhaar bridge payment system.

Your bank account must meet the applicable Aadhaar-seeding and payment requirements.

If your bank account is not properly Aadhaar-seeded or is not eligible to receive the payment through the prescribed system, your incentive may be delayed.

To avoid problems:

  • Check whether Aadhaar seeding has been completed with your bank.
  • Confirm that your bank account is active.
  • Ensure that your details are correct.
  • Follow the official instructions if your payment fails.

Never pay an agent who promises to release your government incentive in exchange for a fee.

6. You Must Complete the Required Service Period

The incentive in this scheme depends on working continuously at the same institution.

For the first instalment, you generally need to complete six continuous months of qualifying service.

For the second instalment, you must meet the applicable 12-month service requirement and complete the prescribed financial literacy programme.

Your employer must also submit the required Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) filings and contributions.

Important: Do not assume that changing employers will preserve your eligibility. Under the scheme’s detailed rules, leaving one establishment and joining another can make you ineligible for the incentive.

If you are considering changing jobs before completing the qualifying period, check the official scheme guidelines first.

How Much Incentive Can You Receive?

Eligible first-time employees can receive an incentive equivalent to one month’s qualifying EPF wage, subject to a maximum of ₹15,000.

The amount is calculated under the scheme’s prescribed method and is paid in two instalments.

Here are simplified examples to explain the maximum benefit.

Monthly EPF Wage Illustrative Total Incentive
₹8,000
Up to ₹8,000
₹12,000
Up to ₹12,000
₹15,000
Up to ₹15,000
₹20,000
Up to ₹15,000
₹40,000
Up to ₹15,000

Please note: These examples illustrate the one-month wage concept and the ₹15,000 cap. They are not official payment calculations for individual employees. Actual instalments depend on the qualifying average EPF wages and the detailed scheme formula.

For example, if your qualifying EPF wage is ₹12,000, your total incentive may be up to ₹12,000, subject to the applicable calculation and eligibility conditions.

If your qualifying wage is ₹40,000, the maximum incentive remains ₹15,000 rather than ₹40,000.

PM-VBRY Payment Rules: First and Second Instalments

The incentive is not necessarily paid immediately after joining a company.

First Instalment: After Six Months

The first instalment is calculated as half of the average EPF wage reported for six continuous completed months.

The maximum first instalment is ₹7,500.

The payment also depends on the employee meeting the eligibility requirements and the employer submitting the required ECRs and contributions.

Second Instalment: After Twelve Months

The second instalment is calculated under the scheme’s prescribed formula, using the average EPF wage for the relevant 12-month period and accounting for the first instalment already paid.

The total incentive cannot exceed ₹15,000.

To qualify for the second instalment, you must meet the prescribed 12-month service requirement and complete the required financial literacy programme.

A portion of the incentive is retained in a designated savings instrument or deposit account for a prescribed period. Therefore, you should not assume that the entire incentive will immediately be available as cash in your bank account.

For the exact payment formula, refer to the official PM-VBRY guidelines.

How to Check PM-VBRY Eligibility and Payment Status Online

To verify your UAN, follow the face authentication process available on the UMANG app.

Make sure your identity details are correct and the authentication process is completed successfully.

Step 3: Check Your Bank Account

Confirm that your bank account is active and properly Aadhaar-seeded for the prescribed DBT payment mechanism.

Step 4: Contact Your Employer

Ask your HR or payroll team to verify that your joining date, wages, UAN, and EPF contributions have been reported correctly.

Under the relevant rules, it is also mandatory for the employer to submit the ECR filing.

Step 5: Check the Official Portal

Visit the PM-VBRY official portal and follow the available instructions for eligibility or payment information.

If you cannot find your status online, contact EPFO through its official channels.

Important: Do not rely on unofficial websites that claim to guarantee your incentive. The final eligibility decision depends on the scheme rules and the records verified by EPFO.

What About Employers Under PM-VBRY?

The scheme also provides incentives to eligible employers who create additional employment.

Under this provision, establishments that meet the specified eligibility criteria can be entitled to an incentive of up to ₹3,000 per month for each eligible additional employee.

Employers generally need to maintain the required increase in employment for at least six months.

The scheme specifies additional-employment thresholds of at least two employees for establishments with fewer than 50 employees and at least five employees for establishments with 50 or more employees.

The applicable incentive depends on the wage category and other scheme requirements.

Manufacturing establishments may qualify for extended employer incentives under the scheme.

These employer benefits are separate from the Part A incentive paid to eligible first-time employees.

For further details, consult the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s official scheme announcement.
